Hotpoint Dishwasher
Hotpoint Dishwasher is a British-based company, now owned by Indesit. They are one of the most popular brands in the UK when it comes to kitchen appliances.
When the company started out in England in 1920 they mainly made refrigerators and washing machines, but have since moved onto other appliances, including freezers, ovens, dishwashers and microwaves.
Their selection of dishwashers is large, with over 20 models to choose from.
Most of them come in more or less standard sizes of approximately 60cm wide x 85cm high x 60cm deep. There are however some slim-line models measuring only 45cm across.
Hotpoint’s Ultima range has two models. These have a duo wash feature which enables fragile items to be washed in the top basket at the same time as hardier items are washed at the same time in the lower basket.
They also have different temperature settings, half load facility, timer and a delay start. The two different models are shown below.
The FDD914 is Class A, with 12 programs, with 14 place setting capacity. There is a baby cycle, which offers intensive cleaning for items used for babies and young children. There is also a half-load function using either the top or bottom baskets, and a Dual Space system which lets you move the position of the top basket even when loaded.
The Eco Tech symbol means that they use a special sensor able to detect the degree of dirt on the dishes and adjust the wash cycle accordingly. Prices range from £300 – £500 at retailers.
The SDD910 is a slim-line model, Class A with 8 programs and 10 place setting capacity. It has the Eco Tech, Dual Space and half load features. It also has a Short Time function which, by increasing the water pressure, cuts down on the washing time. It retails from around £250.
The model names are followed by one or two letters which indicate the colour of the appliance: K or KR is black, X or XR is inox, G or GR is graphite and P or PR is white.
These usually get good reviews and a lot of people mention how quiet they are when working.
Hotpoint has many other models to choose from that are not in the Ultima range. These all have different features and obviously you would choose them based on what you want from your dishwasher.
If you want a slim-line version then go for the SDD910 as mentioned above or the SDL510, both of which come in all four colours and take 10 place settings, or the LST216 which has the Eco Tech feature.
Other models with have a capacity of 12 place settings are the FDL570, the LFT228, the LFS114, the LFZ338, the LFT 321 and the FDM 550. There is also another model with the capacity of 14 settings: the FDF784 which has the baby cycle and the Dual Space features and sells from around £270.
The prices of dishwashers varies drastically between retailers so make sure you shop around when buying one, as the same appliance could vary in price between £200 – £300 in different shops.
Is it worth fixing a dishwasher?
A dishwasher may not be worth repairing depending on what the problem is. If the dishwasher needs something simple but important, such as a door latch or seal, soap dispenser, pressure switch, drain pump or fill valve, repair may be worth it.
