Best Espresso Machines And Drip Coffee Maker

It does not really matter if you are a coffee aficionado or if you are looking for the best coffee maker as a gift for someone.

In both cases you probably want to find a high quality coffee machine with a great design in your preferred price-range.

What makes a coffee machine the best?

Best Coffee Maker Reviews BrewedThe top coffee maker can be one of several different types, they’re basically divided up into drip coffee machines and espresso machines.

The drip coffee machines have the water dripping on a coffee filled filter where the water drips steadily through the ground coffee powder. This was the standard coffee maker for a very long time.

The more advanced alternative is the espresso machine which presses the water under high pressure through the ground coffee powder.

This helps to get more aroma out of the coffee and can even create a crema on top of the coffee.

Best Coffee Maker Reviews EspressoEspresso machines can be further divided in the standard ones that use ground coffee (the type you find at Starbucks) and the ones that use coffee pods which make them much easier to handle and clean.

Apart from that difference, the best coffee makers can have one or many of such special features like coffee cup warmers, removable water reservoirs, included coffee grinders, a hotplate to keep the brewed coffee hot or different types of displays and programming options.

Your chosen coffee machine can also be equipped with a frothing wand or special water filters to make the coffee taste even better. And there are many more features that make a coffee machine the best.

Once you decided which type of coffee maker you are looking for and what features you would like to have, then you can make the “design decision”.

Even the best coffee maker can still come in many many different designs and colors. Once this is done you can simply choose by price 😉

Since we focus only on the best machines here we have reviewed many different models to find out which ones are the best in their specific price range. And we had to drink a lot of coffee for tha

A coffee maker that has a manual can help you with these tasks as well as other aspects of maintaining your coffee maker.

For example, cleaning the filter basket or burr of your coffee maker is probably the simplest cleaning task that any coffee maker could offer. What else could you do with a dirty filter basket or burr?

Having freshness in your brewing water is another important benefit of having a manual for your coffee maker.

Just like it’s much easier to clean the grinder basket of an espresso machine than the reservoir of a traditional coffee maker, cleaning the filter basket is more simple.

However, there are also some general cleaning tips for filter baskets and burrs that are available on the internet and in some coffee maker manuals.

Auto-Drip Coffee Maker Buying Guide

The Basics: Auto-Drip Coffee Makers

Coffee makers come in a variety of different sizes, types and styles. One of the easiest to use and most versatile is the automatic-drip coffee maker.

Manufacturers have spent countless research dollars perfecting the brew mechanisms, adding sophisticated features and controls and otherwise improving their automatic-drip coffee makers.

The result is a plethora of options, ranging from basic models to ultra-fancy top-of-the-line units.

For all of their sophistication, automatic-drip coffee makers are relatively simple devices, all of which function in a similar manner.

Water is added to a tank or reservoir, where it is heated and then dispersed over a pre-filled basket of grounds.

As the heated water travels through the grounds, it extracts flavor before it drips into a waiting container (i.e., mug, coffee pot or thermal carafe, or internal storage tank).

That being said, there’s more than one way to brew a good cup of coffee. Factors such as the temperature of the water, the length of the brew cycle,

The shape of the filter basket, and the way the water is dispersed into the filter basket all play important roles in the finished brew.

A second, but no less important consideration, is keeping the brewed coffee at the ideal serving temperature.

Unless you are making a single cup or planning to consume the entire pot within a few minutes of brewing, you need a reliable way to keep the coffee warm until you are ready to drink it.

Many automatic-drip coffee makers, therefore, feature built-in warming trays, designed specifically for keeping the brewed pot of coffee warm.

Other models have eliminated the warming plate and replaced the traditional glass carafe with an insulated thermal carafe.

Those models shut off immediately after brewing since the thermal carafes have their own heat-retaining ability.

A relatively new option in this category is the “coffee-on-demand” style machines. These units brew coffee directly into an internal holding tank where the coffee is kept hot and ready for dispensing one cup at a time.

The coffee is dispensed by pressing your cup against a bar on the outside of the machine.

More than any other style, automatic-drip coffee makers offer a wealth of choices in terms of specialty features.

Machines run the gamut from bare bones, no-nonsense models to fully loaded, turbocharged models that do everything from grinding the coffee to brewing it at a predetermined time.

Standard units consist of a power base, with water reservoir, filter holder, carafe and built-in warming plate or carafe stand.

Most models have sensible dripless carafes, clearly marked easy-to-fill water reservoirs, swing-out or lift-out filter baskets, and simple, intuitive controls.

Other features include indicator lights that signal when the unit is operating and when the brewed coffee is ready; cord storage, to cut down on counter clutter; and automatic shutoff.

A majority of models now have a brew-pause feature, which halts the flow of coffee long enough to pour a cup.

Optional features include touchpad or digital control panels; clocks with timers to preset the start of coffee making; permanent gold-tone or screen filters, which replace the standard disposable paper filters; and automatic shut-off.

Fancier options in this category include built-in water filtration systems, which are designed to remove chlorine, bacteria and other contaminants from drinking water before brewing;

Flavor systems that can adjust the strength of the coffee–from mild to robust–to suit your taste; and built-in grinding, which allows you to add coffee beans, push a button and grind just prior to brewing for the freshest possible taste.

Another factor is size. Full-size auto-drip coffee makers usually brew up to 12 cups but can be set for smaller servings.

Personal-size machines make up to four cups at a time and save counter space. Single-cup machines are available, which, in many cases, brew directly into a travel mug for convenient on-the-road coffee consumption.

All automatic-drip coffee makers require periodic cleaning or decalcifying to remove mineral deposits. This is accomplished by brewing a cycle with a special cleaning solution or a mixture of vinegar and water.

Automatic-drip coffee makers range in price from approximately $20 for a small capacity, basic unit to $300 for a full-size, top-of-the-line model, loaded with specialty features.

Coffee makers usually carry 1- or 2-year warranties. Higher-end units are backed by slightly longer warranties.

How to Shop

Because of the popularity of automatic-drip coffee makers, manufacturers have leapt to the challenge of creating the perfect machine for every household.

By producing more and more models, however, they have saturated the market with machines in every conceivable size, style and color available. While this is good news for the consumer, shoppers may find themselves in a quandary over which model to purchase.

Before you go shopping, consider these factors:

How often will you use the machine?

Many coffee devotees brew at least one pot every day, usually first thing in the morning.

Others brew frequently throughout the day. If you plan to use your machine daily, it pays to invest in a model with durable construction.

Because much of the “wear and tear” occurs through leaving the unit in the “on” position so that the warming tray can operate,

You might consider buying a machine with a thermal carafe, or investing in a free-standing carafe and pouring the coffee into the carafe immediately after brewing.

If you are more of a weekend coffee drinker, wear and tear is less of an issue, however you still want a machine that is reliable and convenient to use.

How many cups do you routinely brew?

Size matters with automatic-drip coffee makers. Full-size machines perform best when set to brew a full pot of coffee.

These machines offer the advantage of preprogrammed brewing technology, which times the distribution of heated water through the grounds for optimum flavor extraction.

A full pot usually consists of 8-14 cups and takes anywhere from 5-12 minutes to complete the brew cycle.

In coffee maker lingo, a “cup” of coffee refers to a portion equal to approximately 5-6 ounces, not the standard 8 ounces in a traditional cup measurement.

So, a machine that brews eight cups actually makes enough coffee to dispense about six standard coffee cups or four decent sized mugs.

Although coffee strength is a matter of personal preference, the recommended amount of ground coffee is approximately 1-2 tablespoons for each brewed 5-ounce cup.

If you regularly brew only 2-3 cups of coffee, doing so in a large machine can result in flavor loss, as the grounds are spread over a wider area and the heated water does not have time to extract the full flavor.

Smaller machines are available and some full-size machines offer a 1- to 4-cup feature to compensate for the smaller quantity of grounds. The feature lengthens the brew time to allow full flavor extraction with smaller batches.

Which specialty features do you need?

By far the most common specialty feature available on auto-drip coffee makers is a digital clock/timer, which allows you to preset the time of brewing.

This feature, which is almost exclusive to auto-drip machines (and one of the main reasons for their popularity),

Offers the advantage of set-it-and-forget-it operation since you can literally add the water and ground coffee the night before and awaken to a freshly brewed pot of coffee.

Another optional feature is water filtration, usually in the form of a charcoal insert that removes many of the impurities in tap water, including chlorine.

Filters can not only improve the taste of the coffee but also can preserve the life of the coffee maker by preventing calcification buildup. The filters have a limited lifespan, usually around two months or 60 uses.

More and more manufacturers are offering a brew-through thermal carafe in place of the traditional glass carafe.

These insulated carafes can be removed for serving, yet they still retain the heat and flavor of freshly brewed coffee. These models also save energy by shutting themselves off immediately after brewing.

One of the newest offerings is the coffee-on-demand style machine. These models do not have carafes. Instead, the coffee is brewed directly into an internal tank where it is kept hot and ready for dispensing.

Combination Coffee/Espresso Maker Buying Guide

The Basics: Combination Coffee/Espresso Makers

If you are a serious coffee drinker, a combination coffee/espresso maker offers the best of both worlds.

These units are capable of brewing a full pot (10 to 12 cups) of traditional automatic-drip coffee on one side and shots (or a carafe) of espresso on the other.

In some cases, you can brew both, simultaneously. Like the machines that perform these functions individually,

A combination coffee/espresso maker can be fairly basic or come with an array of specialty features and programming to rival even the most sophisticated kitchen appliances.

Most combination machines, especially lower-priced models, are automatic-drip coffee makers with a steam-powered espresso maker and a frothing wand to foam milk for cappuccino.

A steam espresso maker can be identified by the characteristic screw cap, which is used to seal the boiler while steam pressure builds for brewing espresso.

Some higher-end machines offer pump-driven espresso production, which is preferred over steam for its truer temperature and more powerful pressurized extraction.

With these machines, the espresso brewing usually takes center stage while the coffee maker has few, if any, specialty features.

When purchasing a combination machine, your most important consideration should be whether coffee or espresso is your primary interest, and you’ll want to buy a unit that offers the best options for your preferred drink.

If you are more of an espresso connoisseur but drink coffee occasionally, or if you want a coffee option strictly for guests, it would make sense to purchase a unit that favors the best espresso functionality.

On the other hand, if you are a regular coffee drinker and espresso is a weekend pleasure or occasional indulgence, you should invest in a unit that favors coffee production.

Virtually any specialty feature available on an automatic-drip coffee maker can be found on a combination machine.

This includes a digital clock/timer, automatic shut-off, pause-to-serve, water filtration and touchpad controls.

Add the frothing capability of a steam- or pump-driven espresso maker and you’ve got a winning combination.

As you might expect, combination units occupy more counter space and cost more than stand-alone coffee makers, but depending on the functions included, getting two machines in one will save counter space and money.

A new entry into the combination coffee/espresso machine market is the specialty beverage machine, which uses pre-filled coffee pods, cups or discs to deliver customized drinks at the touch of a button.

Although many afficionados feel that the flavor is not as authentic as from traditional brewing methods, these machines are fun and uncomplicated and offer a wide array of beverage choices.

Because of their dual functions, combination coffee/espresso makers are typically more expensive than regular machines, ranging in price from approximately $140 for a basic unit to $250 or higher for a powerful, top-of-the-line model.

They usually carry 1- or 2-year warranties, although higher-end units are often backed by longer coverage. Keep in mind that all automatic-drip coffee makers require periodic cleaning or decalcifying to remove mineral deposits.

This is accomplished by brewing a cycle with a special cleaning solution or a mixture of vinegar and water.

How to Shop

Combination coffee/espresso makers have the unique ability to supply everyone’s coffee drink of choice with the flip of a switch,

So they are ideal in households where one person drinks coffee and the other espresso. These machines are also perfect for entertaining, since you can offer guests a choice of beverage.

For many individuals, a combination machine’s coffee maker is the primary function, while the espresso function acts as secondary benefit. Of course, the opposite can also be true.

Before you go shopping, consider how often you will use each function, how many cups you routinely brew and what specialty features you will find most useful.

How often will you use each function?

Like individual coffee and espresso makers, combination machines are available in a multitude of styles, sizes and colors.

You can narrow your choices by first deciding on a steam- or pump-driven espresso function. The former uses steam pressure to force water through the grounds quickly, resulting in strong, hot espresso.

Though less powerful than pump models, steam machines do an admirable job and cost considerably less.

As their name suggests, pump machines use a powerful pump to force water through the grounds at an extremely fast rate for maximum flavor extraction. For espresso purists, pumps are the machine of choice.

However, if you are more inclined to add frothed milk and flavorings to the espresso, the type of machine is less of an issue.

Once you’ve settled the steam-or-pump debate, consider which features you are looking for in a combination machine.

If you plan to use your machine every day, be sure to look for a model made from durable materials. Plastic is fine for the external housing, drip tray and water reservoir, as plastic stays cool to the touch and wipes clean easily.

Strong metal internal components, especially brass, equate to even heating and long-lasting performance. On the higher-end machines, you’ll see a lot less plastic and a lot more metal.

How many cups do you routinely brew?

If you brew a pot of coffee daily, be sure to check the capacity on the automatic-drip coffee-making function. Many combination machines brew only 10 cups of coffee, as opposed to the standard 12-cup carafe.

Like stand-alone automatic-drip machines, a combination machine can brew a second pot immediately, so if you need a larger batch, you can pour the coffee into a thermal beverage container and restart the brew cycle.

Again, the merits of pump versus steam need to be considered. While pump machines are capable of brewing multiple shots of espresso (you can brew up to 2 cups simultaneously), you have to reload the grounds filter between each brew cycle.

Because the brew process is quick — literally finishing in seconds — making subsequent cups is only a matter of repeating the steps to measure and tamp the coffee grounds.

Most pump machines have large, refillable water tanks that let you continue brewing cup after cup after cup.

On the other hand, steam machines can brew up to four shots of espresso in a single batch. The boiler then needs to cool down before you can open it to make another batch.

If you love to entertain, a combination coffee/espresso maker can be a dream machine, letting you serve regular or decaffeinated coffee, straight shots of espresso, cappuccino, mocha, latte or any type of specialty coffee beverage you can imagine.

Espresso or cappuccino?

Like traditional espresso machines, combination machines have an option for steaming or frothing milk. The most common method is a separate attachment or wand that channels built-up steam through a tube, which you then insert into a small pitcher of cold milk.

The proper method for frothing involves moving the frothing tube up and around in the pitcher to generate a foamy consistency. If you are not careful, however, you can end up scalding the milk,

so the frothing can take just as much practice (if not more) to master than the espresso brewing.

Many manufacturers have simplified the frothing process by supplying their machines with special frothing adapters, which are designed to complete the frothing process quickly and easily.

If you are primarily interested in making cappuccino, latte and other flavored coffee beverages, either type of machine (pump or steam) will do the trick. Of course, you can save money by going with a steam-powered machine.

Materials and Construction

Combination coffee/espresso machines are typically made with both plastic and metal parts. On higher-end machines, you’ll see more metal and less plastic.

Because they must withstand considerable pressure, the internal parts need to be made from a durable material such as aluminum, stainless steel or brass.

Standard coffee-maker parts include a glass carafe, water tank, removable filter basket and nonstick warming plate. Specialty functions can run the gamut from programmable clock/timers to brew-strength selectors, water filtration, brew-pause sensors and automatic shutoff sensors.

With steam-powered espresso machines, you’ll find a large screw cap that must be tightened and left in place during the brewing process, as well as afterward as the boiler cools.

Steam machines also come with a standard filter holder, drip tray and glass carafe. Virtually all machines include frothing wands, and steam left over from the brewing process is used to froth milk.

Most pump machines have certain features in common, including a water reservoir (usually removable), pump, boiler (or thermoblock), brew head, drip tray and filter holders with interchangeable coffee sieves.

These machines do not come with a carafe; instead, you brew espresso directly into your own cups. Every machine also has a frothing wand or attachment.

For both pump and steam models, you need to measure coffee grounds, fill a portable filter holder (often called a portafilter), and then tamp or press down the grounds.

If you’ve never used an espresso machine, it may take a few tries to master the correct tamping and inserting of the filter holder into the machine.

Controls

Typical combination machine controls include push buttons, toggle or flip switches or dial controls, including a separate on/off switch to activate the unit. The more sophisticated units feature touchpad controls with digital clock readouts.

Steam espresso units are typically equipped with either dial or push-button controls, and they include an on/off switch to activate the unit and settings for espresso, steam pre-heat, steam only and power off.

On a pump machine, you will usually find either toggle or flip switches or push-button controls. Occasionally, you may see a dial or touchpad controls. Most units have on, brew, steam and off switches.

Whether you favor coffee, espresso or cappuccino, today’s combination coffee/espresso makers are available to meet any budget. Choose the features you need, and let the brewing begin.

How To Make Ice Coffee Drinks At Home

A big chill is sweeping the coffee industry as iced coffee beverages gain popularity.

According to the National Coffee Association, the percentage of Americans who drink iced coffee beverages increased from 20 percent in 2003 to 29 percent in 2004.

Following the popularity of cappuccinos and mocha lattes, consumers are discovering that coffee is just as tasty – and even more refreshing – when served cold.

Iced coffee can be as easy to prepare as iced tea. A variety of options, such as flavoring syrups, cold milk, chocolate and spices, allow you to create personalized coffee concoctions that are just as delicious as those served in your favorite cafe.

Beverages such as iced vanilla mocha, iced rum coffee and iced latte are easy to make at home. Here are some tips for refreshing iced coffee drinks.

Cheap Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker – Zojirushi Fresh Brew

Zojirushi EC-BD15BA Fresh Brew is a sleek, glossy black 6-cup coffee maker that makes good coffee and its stainless steel thermal carafe keeps your coffee warm for a few hours without getting the burnt taste in it. The best thing is, you will get all these perks at a very small price.

No More Burnt Coffee

Nobody likes the taste of burnt coffee. If you used to keep coffee warm in a glass carafe on a heating plate you will know how through constant heating, you usually end up with coffee with a burnt taste.

To solve the problem, just get a thermal carafe coffee maker and never have that horrid taste in your coffee again! With this coffee machine, the sixth cup of coffee taste the same as the first!

Another great feature of this coffee maker is its “Pause-and-Serve” function. Unlike other similar function with other coffee makers,

This one will not cause any dripping as the brewing pauses for 30 seconds, but please make sure you place back the carafe right after or you will get a big mess to clean.

The Zojirushi EC-BD15BA Fresh Brew also has a programmable timer. If the constant ringing of your alarm clock does not wake you, the smell of coffee brewing in the morning probably will.

Just set the coffee maker to start brewing before you even wake up in the morning so that you’re welcomed by the rich aroma of coffee.

Fairly Easy to Maintain

This coffee maker is fairly easy to maintain. No special cleaning agent is needed to clean the lime that will be produced over time.

To fight this, all you need to do is to run an equal mixture of water and white vinegar through the coffee maker.

As for its exterior, you will only need to wipe it down with a soft, damp rag. For the filter, run it through with warm soapy water and rinse it well after each use. To clean the narrow and slim carafe neck, use a long bottle brush to help you scrub the inside of the carafe.

If you are using paper filters, damp the filters before putting it in. It should fit better that way. Make sure that it is also wedged in the bottom of the filter basket.

This coffee maker is meant to be used with either #4 paper filters or a #4 gold filter. However, as it turns out, the #4 filters are a little too big for it. A slight glitch in description?

For better tasting coffee, it is best to use bottled water with this coffee maker so that you will get better tasting coffee and avoid leaving residue on the insides of the coffee maker.

To bring the taste of your coffee up a notch, grind your beans as finely as you can. You’ll get a stronger and more exquisite taste from your favorite coffee beans. Also, don’t be stingy on the amount of grind to use!

Small Annoyance

For those in a hurry, the pour spout may annoy you during those times. The spout pours a bit slow if you do not align the lid and the dot on the spout properly. Do this and you will get to pour your coffee out smoothly.

Cheap Glass Carafe Coffee Maker – Black & Decker DCM2500

If you are looking for a glass carafe coffee maker that won’t break the bank, the Black & Decker DCM2500 is the best in its price range without any misses!

User Friendly

If you asked me to describe the coffee maker in one word, it would be ‘EASY’. You can easily pour water into the large hole on top of the water reservoir.

Checking the water level is easy too, thanks to the window on both sides of the container.

I also love that the controls are easy to understand and use – no fancy functions to confuse you!

The filter basket is also easily removed to be cleaned, easy to position back, and uses the common flat bottomed filters.

Since programming is simple to use, users do not even need to read the provided manual. You can program the coffee maker to start on its own.

All you need to do is press the “Program” button and set the time. Just make sure you set the time when you first get the coffee maker out of the box.

Makes Good Coffee

Despite being cheap, this coffee maker makes coffee that tastes clean, crisp and smooth.

Plus, it is very consistent and the coffee tastes the same every time! It will never let you down.

The secret? Unlike those coffee makers that has water entering in a stream into the drip chamber, the system has water entering the drip chamber in a shower.

It is also perfect for a household where everyone drinks coffee. The carafe can fill up to 12 cups of coffee.

Fill the water up to the level of water needed to brew the number of cups of coffee you want.

Oh, and adjust the amount of coffee grounds used. The carafe has a wide spout which means lesser probability of coffee dripping when pouring so that there will be no stains on that beautiful kitchen worktop.

If you like stronger coffee, I’d recommend using disposable filters instead of reusable ones. It will also produce better coffee!

However, if you’re concerned about the environment, the Black & Decker DCM2500 can be used with a permanent filter.

However, you will need to put some effort into cleaning the permanent filter since perforations are on the sides only.

I did mention that this coffee maker makes great coffee. However, if you like your coffee smoking hot, this may not be the coffee maker for you.

The coffee maker is made for people on the go, so it produces warm coffee that will not burn your tongue.

Leakage and Rust

A lot of users complained that the point where the glass meets the plastic lid is a bit fragile.

Some of the units’ spring popped out and cause the coffee maker to leak. Now, if your unit has this problem, the warming plate will rust.

A damp carafe will also cause this in due time. To protect the warming plate from rusting, coat it with BBQ paint.

If you already have this problem, sand off the rust from the base of the plate and paint it with BBQ paint for protection. The BBQ paint typically lasts for a few years before you need to go over the regime again.

Capresso Espresso Machine

In terms of surprises, Capresso espresso machines have probably given me more than any other brands of espresso machines.

An experienced shopper for espresso machines like me knows that the price tag is a strong indicator of quality, even if it is not the ultimate one. But the affordable Capresso models seem to be doing well.

If you ask me, I would recommend a Capresso espresso maker for entry level home users. They are easy to use and make a decent cup of coffee that can satisfy the budding enthusiast.

And by the time the user grows into a senior enthusiast, the machine would have given back its worth and it would be time to upgrade to something higher end.

This Capresso espresso maker surprises me that it can get crema on the espresso if really fresh grounds are used.

It’s only a steam driven espresso machine after all, but makes quite a decent cup of coffee.

This machine is not difficult to use, but you’ll have to know that it requires coarser grounds and a loose tamp so that the coffee is not burnt.

This espresso machine doesn’t need a lot of cleaning up or maintenance, but remember to give the steam wand a wipe after each use.

This Capresso espresso machine comes for an amazing price tag below $300. Why do I say that’s amazing?

Because this machine does automatic tamping for you! This model is the closest to a super automatic you can get for this price, as most super automatics will cost over $1000.

Most users like this machine for the milk based coffee drinks it makes, but the crema-topped espresso is good enough too. This espresso machine does look a bit out of the ordinary, don’t you think?

Rancilio Espresso Machine

Anyone who has been making espressos at home for the past few years would have heard of the Rancilio Silvia. Well,

There is a reason why the Rancilio espresso machines have been the top of the line, or the gold standard test,

or the final touchstone, or whatever you would call it, for the various home espresso machines in the market for eight years or so.

I had wondered about it earlier, why the Rancilio Silvia espresso machine is so popular and what is so good about it.

After getting it and experiencing it for myself, what can I say? I absolutely loved it! I realized that the line that separates a Rancilio from other home espresso machines is drawn at the quality of the parts. Rancilio espresso machines actually have parts similar to the commercial machines.

I wouldn’t have gone and read up boring company histories if I wasn’t so impressed with my Miss Silvia, but I did and apparently Rancilio had been manufacturing commercial espresso machines since 1927.

They only came out with the household machines after 54 years of producing professional espresso makers. No wonder their home espresso machines are good.

Rancilio Silvia – Best Espresso Machine

This Rancilio espresso machine is a heavy and solid unit with stainless steel exterior and a quality brass boiler.

Brass is the best material for the boiler because it is resistant to corrosion and heats evenly, and this simply means that my espresso machine will last longer.

You can actually brush up your skills using this semi automatic espresso maker because all the manual factors like grinding the beans, tamping the portafilter,

And steaming the milk, will need a bit of practice on your part to come up with the perfect cup of espresso with thick crema or cappuccino with microfoam.

I’m never going to Starbucks again while I have my Miss Silvia; I feel like a Starbucks barista myself now, brewing my own coffee in the mornings, especially when the quality is no less.

Gaggia Espresso Machine

Italian made Gaggia espresso machines are one of the most well made and sought after espresso makers in the market.

Having one of them as a part of your kitchen will make coffee making and drinking the highlight of your day.

Gaggia espresso machines deliver superbly rich, creamy coffee drinks every time – and it will not cost you a lot.

Despite being in the smaller budget range, a Gaggia has the ability to extract the best out of the coffee grinds and create a rich crema on top – a perfect espresso, indeed! Now you don’t need to run to a cafe for a cup.

The best thing about these espresso machines is that they are easy to use. So, if you’re an espresso machine virgin, don’t worry! Gaggia espresso machines are made for both professional and amateur home barista.

Gaggia 14101 Classic – Best Gaggia Espresso Machine

The timeless Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine will definitely class up your kitchen-top at an estimated $500.

And unlike most home use coffee makers, this Gaggia espresso maker is made from good quality material that is adaptable with the temperature changes to avoid any premature erosion, especially the milk steamer.

The controls for this Gaggia espresso maker is simple which makes it easy for newbies to handle. You may need to experiment on the right grind and tamp for your coffee beans though!

One of its best features is the three-way solenoid valve; it lets me make the next shot almost immediately. This Gaggia espresso maker also heats up faster than my Rancilio!

Gaggia Syncrony 9004 is one machine I would recommend those with a tight budget but wants a super automatic.

With a push of a button, it grinds and brew the coffee and dispense the used grind in a container.

All these are done in a matter of minutes. How great is that? It has a double boiler to save time between brewing and steaming,

But the body of the machine is mostly plastic, as you can see from the photo it doesn’t look as attractive as the Classic.

The best thing about this Gaggia espresso coffee machine is that it allows you to choose the strength of your espresso other than the type of coffee drinks that you want.

Both adjustments (and many others!) can be set on the touch screen control bar. You can always be sure that the machine will extract the espresso at its best with its 15-bar pump!

The milk island froths the milk nicely. It comes out smooth and creamy – perfect with any types of coffee from latte to mocha.

DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker – Best Budget Espresso Machine

I remember that there was always some internal struggle going on when I was a poor college student and an avid coffee lover. But when I got this DeLonghi EC155, I never thought that my college days could be any better!

DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker – Best Budget Espresso Machine

One Amazon reviewer said, “[This] espresso machine rocks if you consider how cheap it is.” I agree with her one hundred percent. This is the espresso machine to get if you want some good coffee without the luxury of going to Starbucks every morning.

Cheap Yet Pump Driven!

DeLonghi EC155 is pump-driven, much to my initial surprise, because cheaper espresso machines are usually steam driven. Only pump driven machines can draw out the true flavor of espresso!

I can’t say how much I owe to this machine for giving me strong shots every night I stayed up to study for exams. Even the rich aroma is enough to keep me awake!

This is a compact machine, measuring only 7.5 x 9.5 x 11.13 inches, just nice for my small apartment in those days. Just note that you have to use small shot glasses for it.

Luckily I didn’t use the frother much at that time, because it is rather low so only a small froth pitcher will fit. And the frothing wand is short for deep frothing too.

The tamping needs a bit of work, and I would have bought a separate tamper if I had the cash back then. But if you’re using pods then it’s ok because there’s no need to tamp.

There is currently a promotion in Amazon.com for DeLonghi EC155, so the price is below $100! Those who are on a tight budget but still want a decent espresso machine, catch the deal now.

The Espresso Machine with Dual Boilers

Some time ago espresso machines with dual boilers only appeared in commercial settings, so I was pretty surprised to see that now even home users are willing to spend over $1000 for a machine that gets their espresso ‘right’.

Exactly what is all the fuss about having one extra boiler for the espresso machine?

Well, the main purpose of having two boilers is to brew and steam at the same time, because it takes time for one boiler to shift from brewing to steaming.

Dual boilers mean that one is used to brew while the other to steam, so you save considerable time and serve up quickly.

A dual boiler espresso machine also yields a more stable temperature for the brewing, and this is important to get the perfect taste again and again.

That is why good coffee chains use machines with two boilers; for the efficiency and uniformity in taste.

Here’s a dual boiler espresso machine great for both commercial and home use.

Breville BES900XL

If you know exactly what you are doing with your espresso machine, the beans, the temperature, the tamp and even the time of brewing, then this is the perfect machine that you will love.

Total Control

Whoever designed this espresso machine knew exactly what he’s doing and made the most of it by adding a PID and temperature display.

Not only can you control the temperature, you also have the best over brewing time and pressure with the shot clock and gauge.

In other words, with this espresso machine you have total control over what comes out into the cup. Even so,

Don’t panic if you are not so professional in espresso making. There are programmed settings for you to use when you’re not up to fine-tuning everything.

With this espresso machine you only need the perfect grinder to go with it. Many users recommended the Breville BCG800XL, a conical burr grinder that has enough grind settings to please everyone.

Best Value Automatic Espresso Machine – Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza Automatic Single-Serve Espresso Machine with Milk Frother

I think the Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza is one of the automatic single serve espresso machines that gives the best value.

In fact, if you like to have cappuccino or espresso drinks at home everyday without going into all the trouble of hand pulling your own shot or washing up the machine each time afterward, get an automatic espresso machine like this one.

Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza Automatic Single-Serve Espresso Machine

No Worries, Taste is Great

I’ve had my doubts when it comes to automatic single serve espresso machines at first, just like everyone else.

For one thing, they use pods instead of ground beans, would the taste be rich enough? And the pods can only be bought with the company making the machine,

So if you don’t like their pods, the machine will become an ornament in the kitchen.

The first time I tasted an espresso made from Nespresso pods, all the doubts cleared away.

There was no doubt that they can make good espresso, even if in pods, and there are many flavors to choose from, so anyone can find their favorite taste.

Way Easier to Use and Clean

Everything is so easy with the Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza! Just fill the water dispenser, take a pod from your pod carousel and pop it in, wait for the lights to stop

Blinking, then press the button. Voila! You get your rich smell of espresso before it comes out into the cup.

“The thought that I could enjoy coffee of that quality in my own home, at a whim in less than five minutes, blew my mind.

And it was so easy! I ordered a C-100 as soon as I got home and have never been sorry.” – Robert Finklestein, at Amazon.com

Pour milk into the included Aeroccino froth maker until the bottom line (take care not to overfill or it’ll froth out of the container), put on the lid and press button.

You can make hot milk, light froth or heavy froth with this for lattes and cappuccinos.

Tip: If you like hotter coffee, heat up the machine by running it once without the pod first.

Cleaning up is even easier! Just run the machine once with water, and clean the base by pulling it out, discarding the used pods and rinsing it.

This automatic espresso machine is so convenient that I bought one for my wife to put in her office.

It’s very affordable compared to super automatics which cost over $1000, and she’s so pleased that she doesn’t have to waste a lot of time making coffee and cleaning up. She now spends more time finding out what other flavors there are to try instead! 🙂

Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza is less than $300, and the pods cost $.55 each except for a couple of special varieties.

The pods can be bought on Amazon, any local Nespresso boutique stores, or their online store.

Get the Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza Automatic Single-Serve Espresso Machine here, and choose the Titanium color for discounts and free shipping.

Gaggia Syncrony Compact Digital 9004

I’m sure if you’ve been doing some research on the espresso machines that does it all – grinding, tamping and brewing – you know that super automatic machines like this don’t come with an attractive price tag. But here’s an exception!

Gaggia Syncrony 9004 is the super auto espresso machine I would recommend those with a tight budget.

Gaggia Syncrony 9004

If you are one who want your coffee fast without going through all the process of grinding and tamping the beans yourself,

This unit is really a good buy because you won’t need to buy a separate grinder. It’s even cheaper than a high end semi-automatic espresso machine!

Best Budget Super Automatic

What’s great with this machine is that it has a double boiler to save time between brewing and steaming.

The body of the machine is mostly plastic but the steamer is stainless steel, which is an important feature for some people.

Just like the best super auto machines, Gaggia Syncrony 9004 can make espresso shots from both beans and ground coffee, but don’t try fine ground! Use coarser ground so that the filter won’t clog up.

But then, I wouldn’t need a super automatic if I want to drink ground coffee all the time. That is just a convenience for guests who want decaf.

This machine also tells you when it’s time to decalcify it, although with some experience you’ll know without it having to remind you. When you forget, that’s the time your coffee will taste weird!

Tip: Use distilled water to avoid fast mineral buildups and protect the boilers.

What Else Matters

The position of the water container was criticized by a reviewer as a glitch in the design, but there are others who liked its compactness and small footprint.

“I didn’t prefer the water container right above the electrical input especially when you had a full container and carefully had to put it in place.”

Bosch TCA6301UC Benvenuto B30 Thermoblock

Do you know what it means to wake up in the morning, find your barista ready in your kitchen, tell him exactly what you want, then in two minutes just sit down and enjoy a cup of great coffee?

Do you love drinking coffee, but couldn’t be bothered to do the grinding, tamping and brewing? If you answered yes to both questions, then you’ve got to have the Bosch Benvenuto B30.

Bosch TCA6301UC Benvenuto B30 Thermoblock

When I married my wife, a close friend gave us this Bosch Benvenuto. It is so easy to use; anyone can use it to make great espresso!

Personal Barista In Your Kitchen

It has an automatic timer function, so I preset it to turn on just before I wake up. When I want my coffee, it’s ready for my instructions, just like my personal barista.

I take my cup which is kept warm on the top of the machine, put it under the spout. Then I choose the size I want by flipping the switch, and it starts measuring and grinding the beans when I push the button. In less than two minutes, my coffee is ready!

You don’t even have to worry about the height of the spouts when you choose a different size coffee, because they are adjustable.

How cool is that? Sometimes when I need a super large mug, I just hold the mug to the spouts from the side, without having to remove the tray beneath.

Please Everyone in the Family

Everything about this espresso machine is intelligent. When it’s time to add water, empty the grounds tray, change the filter or clean the machine, it tells you so.

Then you just do whatever it says. Cleaning is very easy too, just put a cleaning tablet and run the cleaning cycle by pushing a button!

The Bosch Benvenuto is especially wonderful for families who love coffee. Besides having every size from small espresso shots to XXL coffee mugs,

You can choose the coffee strength from mild to extra strong. You can also put pre-ground coffee in another container. In short, it can satisfy everyone!

The only thing is, you have to add water often if you brew a lot of coffee, of course. I didn’t mind that because I want fresh distilled water for my coffee every time.

“It’s been 15 months and 2,699 “brews” since we bought it. STILL works flawlessly…we’ve saved $3,373 by not going to Starbucks.”

Other super automatic espresso machines I recommend are Jura-Capresso Impressa J6 and DeLonghi ESAM3300.

But if you prefer to do your own grinding and tamping, you can check out my favorite semi-automatics:

Here are the 10 Best Selling Coffee Machines in 2020

Top 10 Best Selling Espresso Machines on Amazon

Which espresso machine is selling like hot cakes out there? Upon my investigation, topping the chart on Amazon is DeLonghi EC155! And here are the top ten best selling espresso machines on Amazon, with my notes for each:

DeLonghi EC155 – Best Selling Espresso Machine

bestselling espresso machine

DeLonghi EC155

A pump espresso machine below $100? You’ve got to be kidding. But then again if it does exist, the price itself is a legitimate reason for it to be the No. 1 bestselling espresso machines of all times.

Imagine the money saved; if I paid the same amount towards the piggy bank instead of getting a coffee from the shop, I could have bought about ten EC155s a year.

This semi automatic espresso machine is not all perfect, but it makes good enough espresso to satiate the average drinker, is easy enough for beginners to operate, and certainly saves you enough money to upgrade to a higher end machine by the time it expires.

DeLonghi EC702

A stainless steel semi automatic for the ordinary people who hasn’t got $500 – $1000 to spend on an espresso machine. If you are looking for value under $200 and a machine that won’t let you down, this is it.

Mr. Coffee ECM160

I wouldn’t call this an espresso machine. Any steam espresso machine does not deserve that title because none of them makes a proper shot that makes the cut (for me, at least), but if you actually like watered espresso drinks, why not.

Nespresso CitiZ

An automatic espresso machine that uses Nespresso pods instead of your regular beans, this compact engine with a user-friendly milk frother makes a variety of wonderful-tasting shots and an added value to any office.

Capresso 303.01

This 4-cup steam espresso maker is just about $20 less than the DeLonghi EC155, and makes strong coffee instead of true espresso shots with crema.

I certainly don’t see the point of anyone getting this, unless the convenience of making 4 cups of coffee at once is your priority over taste.

DeLonghi BAR32

Except for its rounded, retro looks, this DeLonghi espresso machine is similar to the EC155. Amazon sometimes prices this higher than the EC155 though, so the surplus is what you pay for the design.

Breville BES900XL

This high end espresso machine is not for everyone, especially if not for a beginner or someone who doesn’t know or care about the details of making a perfect shot of espresso. Loaded with a PID,

Programmable settings, dual boilers and many other advanced commercial-grade features, this beautiful espresso machine can definitely blast you away with the espresso it makes.

Nespresso Pixie

The Pixie is an even more compact version of the Citiz for really small spaces in the kitchen.

The reason that it has such a small footprint is that it doesn’t come with a milk frother, though that can be bought separately.

Mr. Coffee ECMP50

Another pump espresso machine for less than $100? The espresso maker companies are catching on fast.

Mr. Coffee usually makes steam espresso machines, but this attempt at a pump espresso machine seems to bode well with the users, as they praised its ease of use and handy compact size.

Gaggia 14101 Classic

Forget the cheap 15-bar pump espresso machines; you want something that shows you’re really into espresso making, but $600 doesn’t seem reasonable to you,

so a mid range espresso machine like this is perfect! The Gaggia Classic is well-built and makes lovely espressos.
